Hasselblad's iconic medium format SLR — modular 6x6 system with interchangeable everything.
The Hasselblad 500C/M was produced approximately 1970-1994 as the C/M version of the 500-series 6×6cm modular medium-format SLR system. Interchangeable film backs (6×6, 6×4.5, magazine), interchangeable viewfinders (waist-level or prism), and interchangeable Zeiss lenses with built-in leaf shutters. 6×6cm (56×56mm) image format.
6×6cm (56×56mm) medium-format image area. Modular system: interchangeable film backs, viewfinders, and lenses. Zeiss lenses with built-in Compur leaf shutters (flash sync at all speeds). Waist-level finder standard. 220-film and 120-film backs available. No meter — external metering required.
The 500C/M is the most widely known Hasselblad V-system body: the modular design pioneered by the original 1000F (1952) reached its mature form in the 500-series. The C/M designation indicates interchangeable film magazines and updated shutter mechanism. Zeiss Carl Zeiss lenses with in-lens leaf shutters provide flash synchronisation at all shutter speeds. Used extensively in professional portrait, fashion, and NASA missions.
On the used market the Hasselblad 500C/M is available as a classic medium-format film system. Condition checks: film back dark slide, mirror mechanism, lens shutter (must fire at all speeds), film transport. Requires Hasselblad V-mount lenses and accessories.
