The Hasselblad 553ELX (1988–1996) is a motor-driven variant in the Hasselblad 500-series V-system — the 'EL' indicating an integrated electric motor drive for motorized film advance. Unlike the standard 503 bodies requiring manual winding, the 553ELX advances film and cocks the shutter automatically after each exposure. Uses all standard Hasselblad V-system lenses and magazines.

6×6 medium format film SLR, Hasselblad V-mount (bayonet), integrated electric motor drive (motorized advance), compatible with all V-system CF and CFi lenses and 120/220 film backs. Requires NiCd or external power.

The 553ELX is suited to rapid sequential shooting and remote/trigger use where manual film advance is impractical — studio product photography cycles, wildlife remote triggers, scientific documentation. Motor drives the entire system: film advance, shutter cocking, and ready signal. All V-system lenses (C, CF, CFi, CB) are compatible. The NiCd battery system is the primary maintenance concern on older ELX bodies.
