Insta360's modular action camera with a 1-inch 360 sensor module for immersive capture.
The Insta360 ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition was released in June 2022 as a modular 360-degree camera co-developed with Leica, incorporating dual 1-inch CMOS sensors for improved image quality compared to smaller-sensor 360-degree cameras. It comprises a 1-inch 360-degree lens module that attaches to the ONE RS core unit — the same core unit is compatible with other ONE RS lens modules for non-360 capture. The dual 1-inch sensors are positioned back-to-back, each covering a 180-degree hemisphere to produce the full spherical 360-degree output.
Dual 1-inch CMOS sensors capture 360-degree video at up to 6K (6144×3072) at 24/25fps, or 5888×2944 at up to 30fps; 21MP 360-degree still images are supported. Total assembled weight is approximately 239g. FlowState stabilisation corrects movement in 360-degree footage for stable handheld capture without a gimbal. IPX3 splash resistance is provided when fully assembled. Battery life is rated at approximately 62 minutes of continuous 360-degree recording per charge. The modular design allows the same ONE RS core unit to be used with the standard 360-degree module or the 4K wide-angle module.
The 1-inch sensor advantage is most apparent in low-light 360-degree photography and video: larger sensors improve dynamic range and reduce noise at higher ISO settings compared to the 1/2-inch and smaller sensors typical in consumer 360 cameras. For real estate virtual tours, travel documentation, and outdoor 360-degree creative work in variable light, the Leica co-engineered sensors produce substantially better output than standard compact 360 cameras. The modular design means the 1-inch module is an additive investment for ONE RS users rather than an all-or-nothing camera system.
On the used market the ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition is available as a complete kit or as the lens module separately for existing ONE RS owners. Condition checks: both fisheye lens elements for any scratches or coating damage — 360-degree lenses use wide-angle fisheye optics that are exposed to impact without conventional filter protection — core unit battery capacity, and the module-to-core connection contacts. The Insta360 X4 (2024) provides updated 360-degree specs in a simpler non-modular design. Compatible with Insta360 ONE RS and (with limitations) ONE R core units.
