Insta360 released the X3 in September 2022 as the third generation of its flagship 360-degree action camera, succeeding the ONE X2 and continuing the line of dual-lens cameras that capture a full spherical field of view for later reframing into standard flat video.
The X3 uses two opposing wide-angle lenses feeding dual small sensors to capture 5.7K 360-degree video and up to 72-megapixel 360 photos, with a rear touchscreen for framing and settings. It is waterproof to 10 metres without a housing, supports the companion app for stabilization and reframing, and stores footage on a microSD card.
Its dual-lens 360 capture is the defining difference from conventional action cameras: footage can be reframed, stabilized and repointed after recording using Insta360's software, at the cost of a stitch line between lenses that can appear on close subjects.
Used X3 units are common on the secondhand market given their popularity, generally sold body-only or with basic mounts. Buyers should check both lenses for scratches or cracks, confirm the touchscreen works, test waterproofing seals, and verify battery health.
