Insta360's latest flagship 360 camera with improved sensor and 8K video capability.
The Insta360 X5 was released in April 2025 as the fifth-generation X-series 360-degree camera, featuring dual 1/1.28-inch sensors — significantly larger than the X4's sensors — for improved image quality and low-light performance in 360-degree photography. User-replaceable lenses allow owners to replace damaged fisheye elements without returning the camera for repair — a new practical feature for active outdoor use. IP68 waterproofing is rated to 15m depth, up from the X4's 10m.
Dual 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensors capture 360-degree video at 8K (7680×3840) at up to 30fps and 360-degree stills. The sensors are approximately 144% larger in area than those in the X4, providing the low-light and dynamic range improvements associated with larger photosites. Battery capacity is 2,400mAh for up to approximately 187 minutes of continuous 360-degree recording. The replaceable lens design enables field repair of the exposed fisheye elements. Body weight approximately 200g, IPX68 waterproof to 15m depth.
The X5's practical improvements over the X4 are the larger sensors, replaceable lenses, and extended battery life. The sensor area increase produces meaningfully better low-light 360-degree photography and video compared to smaller-sensor alternatives. Replaceable lenses are a practical durability feature for outdoor adventure use where the exposed fisheye elements are the most impact-vulnerable component. InstaFrame mode captures both a flat-framed video and the full 360-degree capture simultaneously, enabling both delivery formats from a single recording session.
The Insta360 X5 is a 2025 product; new is the primary market. Condition checks when available used: both fisheye lens elements for scratches or impact damage (note: these are user-replaceable on the X5, unlike earlier models), battery capacity, and IPX68 sealing at the charging port. The Insta360 X4 is available at lower prices as the previous generation. No interchangeable lens mount in the traditional sense; fisheye lens module is the only optic for this body. Compatible with Insta360 X5 accessories.
