Kodak Advantix C650 — APS compact with zoom lens from Kodak's C-series, late 1990s
The Kodak Advantix C650 was a zoom-lens compact in Kodak's Advantix C-series, part of the wider Advantix range built around the Advanced Photo System that Kodak introduced in 1996 for simplified film loading and flexible print formats.
It uses APS film cartridges rather than 35mm, loaded through a drop-in door, and offers a choice of classic, HDTV or panoramic prints selectable per frame. The lens is a modest optical zoom rather than the single fixed focal length of Kodak's most basic Advantix models, paired with autofocus, autoexposure and a built-in flash.
Within the Advantix line the C-series sat between the basic fixed-lens bodies and the higher ix-branded models with magnetic data recording, offering zoom flexibility without the extra data features of the pricier ix cameras.
APS film and processing are now scarce in the UK, so the C650 mainly interests collectors of 1990s point-and-shoots rather than active shooters. Check the zoom lens for smooth extension, the film door seal, and that the battery compartment is free of corrosion.
