Konica's fast AR wide — the 35mm f/2 Hexanon, a stop brighter than the f/2.8.
The Konica Hexanon AR 35mm f/2 was the faster wide-angle prime for the Konica AR bayonet on the Autoreflex system. Sitting a stop above the f/2.8 version, it served photographers who wanted a brighter 35mm for available-light reportage and a shallower rendering at the wide end.
This manual-focus Konica AR lens has a 35mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2, one stop faster than the f/2.8 variant. It is a rectilinear wide-angle. Element count, filter size and minimum focus distance are not verified here and are left out rather than guessed to keep the entry reliable.
The extra brightness of f/2 makes this 35mm easier to use in low light and gives a little more subject separation than the slower version, while retaining the natural, mildly wide perspective that suits street and documentary work. Stopped down it delivers even sharpness for landscapes and interiors.
The f/2 Hexanon is more sought-after than the f/2.8 and generally priced above it. Look for haze, fungus and coating scratches, confirm the diaphragm moves without oil, and check the focus helicoid feel. It is a popular manual lens to adapt to mirrorless bodies using an AR mount adapter.
