Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z10 — budget 2006 bridge-style superzoom with 8x optical reach
The DiMAGE Z10 was announced in early 2006 as the budget entry point of Konica Minolta's Z-series bridge-style superzoom cameras, following the higher-specified Z5 and Z6. It was among the last DiMAGE-branded compacts released before Konica Minolta exited the camera business later that year.
The Z10 pairs a 1/2.5-inch CCD sensor of around 4 effective megapixels with an 8x optical zoom lens equivalent to roughly 38-304mm, housed in an SLR-styled body with a hand grip and electronic viewfinder alongside its LCD screen. It runs on standard AA batteries and stores images on SD or MultiMediaCard media.
As the stripped-down member of the Z-series, the Z10 trades the higher resolution and image stabilization of the Z5 and Z6 for a lower price, making its telephoto reach useful for casual wildlife and travel snapshots while modest resolution limits results at full zoom in low light.
Secondhand Z10 units are inexpensive and occasionally found bundled with period accessories. Buyers should test the zoom lens through its full range for smooth movement, check the viewfinder and LCD for dead pixels, and confirm battery contacts are clean and uncorroded.
