Konica's 35mm superzoom compact — 38-150mm AF zoom, auto flash, motorised film handling
The Konica Z-up 150e is a 35mm autofocus zoom compact from Konica's long-running Z-up series, sitting at the long-lens end of the line with a 150mm reach that put it in superzoom point-and-shoot territory alongside shorter siblings such as the Z-up 60e.
It carries a 38-150mm autofocus zoom lens with a built-in automatic flash, self-timer and fully automatic exposure. Film handling is motorised with auto advance and rewind, DX coding covers ISO 25-3200 film, some versions offer date imprinting, and the light-grey plastic body measures 114 x 62 x 46mm at about 195g.
The long zoom suits film shooters wanting portrait and candid reach from a pocketable body, though the slow maximum aperture typical of 150mm compacts means it leans on flash or fast film indoors. It is an easy, everything-automatic companion for travel and family photography.
Like most 1990s zoom compacts it is completely battery-dependent — without a healthy lithium cell nothing fires — so test power-up, zoom travel to 150mm and flash charge before relying on it. Check the film door closes light-tight and that motor rewind completes, as worn drives are the common failure.
