The Yashica Zoomate 140 is the Yashica-branded release of the same Zoomate 140 platform Kyocera also sold under its own name, reflecting Kyocera's continued use of the Yashica brand for budget 35mm compacts after acquiring the company in 1983. Some examples carry both markings on the body.
It shares the core Zoomate 140 specification: a compact 35mm film body with a zoom lens reaching roughly 140mm equivalent at the telephoto end, autofocus, programmed autoexposure, DX film-speed sensing, automatic film loading, advance and rewind, a pop-up flash with red-eye reduction, and an LCD panel for frame count.
As with its Kyocera-badged twin, it prioritised zoom reach and simplicity over optical refinement, so telephoto shots show more softness than wide-angle frames. The dual Yashica/Kyocera branding is a labelling difference rather than a functional one.
Used prices stay low, with interest from film-camera hobbyists and Kyocera/Yashica collectors. Check the battery compartment for corrosion, run the zoom and autofocus through their full range, test the flash, and examine the lens for haze or fungus.
