Wartime Luftwaffe-issue IIIc — provenance-driven collector variant of the Barnack screwmount.
The Luftwaffen-Eigentum Leica IIIc is the wartime military-issue variant of the IIIc screwmount, engraved as Luftwaffe property and typically finished in grey paint on a ball-bearing shutter body.
Mechanically it is a standard wartime IIIc - the die-cast chassis generation of the Barnack line - but the engravings, grey finish and K-marked winterised shutters of the period define its collector identity.
Its significance is entirely in provenance: verified military-issue bodies trade at multiples of civilian IIIc money, and the market treats them as a distinct product - exactly why they need their own price record.
Used buying is a minefield of faked engravings: match the serial to known Luftwaffe delivery blocks, treat post-engraved civilian bodies as civilian, and weight originality of finish over cosmetic condition.
