Leica's professional M — M-P variant with discreet styling and sapphire LCD cover.
The Leica M-P (Typ 240, Silver) is the professional-variant silver-finish version of the Leica M Typ 240 digital rangefinder, released approximately 2014. The M-P differs from the standard M Typ 240 by removing the Leica red dot, adding a 2GB buffer, and a silver top plate finish. Leica M mount.
24MP full-frame CMOS sensor. Leica M bayonet mount. Optical rangefinder with Live View. 3-inch LCD. 1080p video. 2GB buffer (vs standard M 1GB). No red dot on front. Silver finish. At approximately 680g. Leica M mount.
The M-P (Professional) designation indicates the discrete no-red-dot aesthetic preferred for street and documentary work, and the larger 2GB buffer allows more continuous RAW shooting. The Typ 240 was Leica's first M with a CMOS sensor (previous digital M bodies used CCD), enabling Live View and video for the first time on an M.
On the used market the Leica M-P (Typ 240, Silver) is a premium full-frame digital rangefinder. Condition checks: sensor dust, rangefinder patch and viewfinder condition, shutter count, LCD condition, battery health (BP-SCL2). Leica M mount. Compare standard M Typ 240 for cost difference.
