Leica M7 — first M with aperture-priority auto exposure, the most convenient film M for everyday shooting.
The Leica M7 (0.72x, Black) is the first Leica M rangefinder with aperture-priority AE — the M7 introduced automatic exposure to the Leica M film system. 0.72x = standard magnification viewfinder. Black finish. Leica M mount.
35mm film. Aperture-priority AE and manual. TTL metering. 0.72x viewfinder. Black finish. Leica M bayonet. Leica M mount.
The M7 is the only Leica M film rangefinder with AE — aperture-priority allows the camera to set shutter speed automatically. All previous M cameras (M3-M6) required full manual exposure. The M7 requires battery for AE (1/8-1/1000s); mechanical shutter (1/60s and B) works without battery.
On the used market the Leica M7 (0.72x, Black) is a desirable feature-complete M film body. Condition checks: AE mode, rangefinder, battery-dependent vs mechanical shutter. Leica M mount.
