The Noctilux designation covers Leica's ultra-fast 50mm standard primes across multiple aperture generations.

The lens delivers 50mm at f/1.2 maximum aperture with aspherical optical correction, Leica M bayonet with 6-bit coding, rangefinder-coupled focusing, full-frame coverage, and the Black Anodised finish of this variant.

The f/1.2 Noctilux ASPH sits below the f/0.95 version in aperture speed but provides aspherical correction that the f/0.95 lacks, resulting in different rendering characteristics — some photographers prefer the f/1.2's controlled rendering over the f/0.95's more extreme wide-open softness. Both are significant collector and shooting instruments.
