The Leica Q2 Monochrom launched in 2020 as a dedicated black-and-white version of the Leica Q2. It uses a 47.3MP full-frame monochrome sensor — with no Bayer colour filter array, every pixel captures luminance data, producing exceptionally detailed and clean B&W images.
Image quality is extraordinary for monochrome work — the lack of colour filter means approximately 2 stops better high-ISO performance and significantly more per-pixel detail than desaturating a colour image. The Summilux 28mm f/1.7 lens is identical to the Q2 and optically superb.
IP52 weather-sealed body. OLED EVF at 3.68M dots. Digital crop modes to 35, 50, and 75mm. 10fps burst shooting. 4K video in monochrome. Fixed 28mm lens — no interchangeable option. Single SD card slot. 734g with battery.
Extremely rare and expensive used — Leica Monochrom cameras hold their value exceptionally well. A niche product for dedicated B&W photographers and Leica collectors. The Q2 colour version is far more versatile. Check for sensor dust requiring Leica service.
