Leica's monochrome compact — the Q3 Monochrom with dedicated black-and-white full-frame sensor.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom is a dedicated monochrome full-frame compact camera with a fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens. Following Leica's tradition of monochrome-only cameras, it removes the colour filter array from the sensor for approximately 30% more resolution and better sensitivity per pixel. The result is black-and-white images of extraordinary tonal depth.
Image quality is extraordinary for monochrome. The 60MP monochrome sensor captures more detail and better tonal graduation than any colour camera converted to black-and-white. The lack of colour filter array means each pixel captures full luminance without interpolation. The Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens provides outstanding sharpness. Dynamic range is exceptional.
Fixed Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH lens — non-interchangeable. Weight is approximately 740 grams. Build quality is the absolute finest Leica engineering. Electronic viewfinder with 5.76M dots. Tilting touchscreen. Weather sealed. Macro mode with close focusing. WiFi and Bluetooth. The Q3 Monochrom produces only black-and-white images — no colour capability.
Very limited availability at premium Leica pricing. Check sensor, EVF, and lens. A unique photographic tool — the only current dedicated monochrome compact camera. The black-and-white-only limitation is the creative point — forcing the photographer to see in tones rather than colours. An extraordinary instrument for serious monochrome photography.
