Leica's R-mount SLR — professional 35mm film camera for the Leica R lens system.
The Leica R5 was released in 1987 as a 35mm film SLR for Leica R-mount, providing four exposure modes and spot plus full-field metering. Shutter speeds continuously variable from 15s to 1/2000 in A/P modes; 1s to 1/2000 in M/T modes, Bulb. Mechanical fallback: 1/100s and Bulb without battery.
35mm SLR, Leica R mount. Exposure modes: Manual (M), Aperture-priority (A), Shutter-priority (T), Program (P). Shutter: 15s–1/2000 continuously variable (A/P modes); 1s–1/2000 full-stop (M/T modes), Bulb. Metering: spot (7mm diameter in M/A modes) and full-field (P/T/A modes). Mechanical emergency shutter: 1/100s and Bulb without battery. 35mm film format.
The R5 provides four MAST exposure modes in the Leica R-system professional film SLR line: the spot metering (7mm diameter) enables precise exposure in high-contrast scenes while full-field metering handles general photography. The mechanical 1/100s fallback shutter speed provides basic shooting capability if the battery fails. The Leica R-mount accepts R-series Leica optics with TTL metering coupling.
On the used market the Leica R5 (Black) is available at Leica R-system film SLR pricing. Condition checks: shutter accuracy across speeds, metering accuracy (spot and field), mirror/shutter foam condition, battery type availability, Leica R mount coupling. Compatible with Leica R-mount lenses.
