Leica's vintage fast 50mm — Summarit f/1.5 in L39 screw mount, a post-war classic.

The Leica Summarit 50mm f/1.5 (LTM) is a vintage fast standard prime for the Leica Thread Mount (LTM/L39/M39), produced in the 1950s. The Summarit was Leica's fastest 50mm lens of its era — a 7-element formula derived from the Xenon design. LTM (Leica Thread Mount).

f/1.5 maximum aperture. 50mm focal length (full-frame). 7-element Xenon-derived Summarit formula. Manual focus. LTM (L39 Leica Thread Mount — 39mm screw thread).

The Summarit was Leica's first fast (f/1.5) standard prime, later superseded by the Summilux f/1.4. The Summarit has residual spherical aberration at f/1.5 producing a characteristic soft 'glow' some photographers find appealing for portraits. Can be used on Leica M bayonet cameras via an L39-to-M adapter.

On the used market the Leica Summarit 50mm f/1.5 (LTM) is a vintage fast prime from the 1950s. Condition checks: front element for haze or fungus (common at 70+ years), aperture blade condition (oil-on-blades frequent), focus ring damping, LTM thread condition.
