Leica's post-war coated wide — the 35mm f/3.5 Summaron, compact screw-mount rangefinder glass.
The Summaron 35mm f/3.5 is Leitz's post-war coated wide-angle for the screw-mount Leica system, succeeding the earlier Elmar 3.5cm as the standard 35mm choice. Offered in Leica Thread Mount, it was a compact, widely used lens through the late 1940s and 1950s.
This is a manual-focus, rangefinder-coupled Leica Thread Mount lens with a 35mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/3.5. It is a coated design in a compact chrome barrel. Verify the filter size and near-focus limit of the individual example rather than assuming, as small production changes occurred.
A 35mm f/3.5 is a versatile moderate wide-angle for street, travel, reportage and landscape work on a rangefinder, giving a natural field of view with generous depth of field. The coated Summaron renders with better contrast than the pre-war uncoated Elmar wide-angles while keeping a classic look.
Used values are collector-driven and reflect condition and finish. Check for haze and cleaning marks, coating wear or scratches typical of early coated glass, and any element separation; confirm smooth focus, dry aperture blades and accurate rangefinder coupling. It mounts on Leica M via a 39-to-M adapter and on mirrorless through an L39 adapter.
