Leica's current 50mm Summicron — 6-bit coded for digital M with retractable hood.
The Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 (Black, 6bit) shares the same optical formula as the standard Summicron-M 50mm f/2 with the addition of 6-bit lens coding for digital M body metadata. Six elements in 4 groups. Eight aperture blades. 39mm filter thread. At approximately 240g. 0.70m MFD.
Six elements in 4 groups. Eight aperture blades. The 39mm filter thread. At approximately 240g. Minimum focus distance of 0.70m. 6-bit lens code for digital M body metadata. Manual focus only. f/2 maximum aperture. Full-frame coverage. Leica M mount.
The 6-bit variant is the same optical unit as the non-coded Summicron-M 50mm f/2 with the addition of a 6-bit binary code on the lens mount flange: digital Leica M bodies (M8, M9, M240, M11) read this code to apply automatic vignetting and colour cast correction profiles. Optically identical to the non-6bit version.
On the used market the Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 (Black, 6bit) is available at Leica M standard prime pricing, typically at a small premium over the non-6bit version for digital M users. Condition checks: 6-bit code contacts, focus helicoid, 39mm front element for marks. Compatible with all Leica M-mount bodies.
