Leica's non-APO 35mm f/2 for L-Mount — premium optics without full apochromatic correction.
The Leica Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH was released in 2023 as a compact, affordable L-Mount wide prime — distinct from the heavier, costlier APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH (2017). Eleven elements in 9 groups with six aspherical surfaces. Aperture blade count not published by Leica. 67mm filter thread (E67). At approximately 400g. 0.24m MFD.
Eleven elements in 9 groups (6 aspherical surfaces). Aperture blade count not disclosed in Leica documentation. The 67mm filter thread (E67). At approximately 400g the lens is substantially lighter than the APO-Summicron-SL version (approximately 700g). Minimum focus distance of approximately 0.24m. f/2 maximum aperture. Full-frame coverage. L-Mount.
The non-APO Summicron-SL 35mm positions as the accessible entry to the SL prime series: at approximately 400g and without the APO designation's added glass mass, it is markedly more portable than the APO version while retaining Summicron optical quality. The 0.24m MFD enables close environmental wide-angle compositions. The 2023 release post-dates the L-Mount Alliance expansion.
On the used market the Leica Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH (non-APO) is available at Leica SL compact prime pricing. Condition checks: AF response, 67mm front element for marks. Note: the APO-Summicron-SL 35mm (heavier, ~700g) is a different product. Compatible with all L-Mount bodies.
