Nine elements in 8 groups (3 aspherical elements). Nine aperture blades (electronically controlled stepping motor, silent). The 67mm filter thread. At 370g the lens is lightweight for a 50mm f/2 prime. Minimum focus distance of 0.45m. f/2 maximum aperture. Full-frame coverage. L-Mount.
The Summicron designation indicates f/2 maximum aperture in Leica's nomenclature. This Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH (2016) is distinct from the APO-Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH (2019): the APO version adds apochromatic correction for reduced colour fringing at all apertures and has a shorter 0.35m MFD vs 0.45m. The silent electronic aperture enables smooth aperture transitions for video recording.
On the used market the Leica Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH is available at Leica SL prime pricing. Condition checks: AF response, 67mm front element for marks. Note: distinct from the APO-Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH (which has 0.35m MFD, apochromatic correction, and was released in 2019). Compatible with all L-Mount bodies (Leica SL/SL2/SL2-S, Panasonic S, Sigma fp).
