Leica's updated R reach tele — the manual-focus Telyt-R 250mm f/4 (II), a redesigned long telephoto.
The Leica Telyt-R 250mm f/4 (II) is the redesigned second version of Leica's 250mm telephoto prime for the R reflex system. It replaced the earlier first version, keeping the 250mm focal length and f/4 aperture while updating the barrel and construction. It gave R photographers reach beyond the 180mm lenses for distant subjects.
This is a manual-focus Leica R lens with a 250mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/4, revised from the first version. It is a full-frame telephoto prime for the reflex line. Confirm the cam configuration, tripod collar and filter thread of the individual lens, and make sure you are buying the version II rather than the earlier design.
The 250mm focal length suits wildlife, sport and distant subjects, giving more reach than the 180mm telephotos. The f/4 aperture allows some subject isolation and reasonable shutter speeds for the length. It is best used on a tripod or monopod for steady framing of far subjects.
On the used market the version II is often preferred over the first design and should be distinguished from it before buying. Check for internal haze, fungus and dust, confirm the aperture is clean and dry, and inspect the tripod collar and mount for wear. Verify the cam setup for correct metering on your R body; a Leica R adapter allows mounting on mirrorless cameras.
