A vintage telephoto lens for Leica M39 screw mount cameras.
The Leitz Hektor 135mm f/4.5 is a telephoto prime for Leica Thread Mount (L39/M39) cameras, one of the earliest long telephoto options for the Leica screw-mount system. The Hektor name was Leitz's designation for their longer, slower telephoto designs across multiple focal lengths. Produced from the 1930s to 1960s in various coating generations.
135mm focal length, f/4.5 maximum aperture, Hektor formula, Leica Thread Mount (L39/M39), rangefinder coupled, external viewfinder required for 135mm framing on most bodies, fixed or collapsible barrel depending on version.
At 135mm on a full-frame body, this lens provides strong telephoto compression — equivalent to a 135mm perspective. An external 135mm viewfinder (or body with 135mm framelines, e.g. Leica M3) is necessary for precise framing. The Hektor 135mm renders distinctively soft wide open, with improved sharpness stopped down to f/8. Compare: Leitz Tele-Elmar 135mm f/4 is the later, sharper successor. The Hektor 135mm has an enthusiast following for its rendering character.
Verify rangefinder coupling accuracy at multiple distances — 135mm requires precise coupling for sharp results. Test focus helicoid for smooth operation. Inspect all elements for haze or fungus (Hektor designs with early coatings are prone to deterioration). Check aperture blades for oil. If collapsible, verify the barrel locks securely in extended position.
