Vintage collapsible standard prime lens for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras.
The Leitz Summicron 50mm f/2 Collapsible is an early Leica M bayonet lens produced from 1954 to 1968, featuring a retractable design that collapses into the camera body for ultra-compact storage — making the camera+lens combination remarkably thin. One of the earliest Leica M lenses and the first Summicron to use the M bayonet.
50mm focal length, f/2 maximum aperture, collapsible (retractable) barrel design, Leica M bayonet mount, rangefinder-coupled.
The Collapsible Summicron is prized by Leica collectors and photographers for its elegant form factor — when collapsed, the camera fits in a coat pocket. The optical formula, while older, delivers the characteristic Leica rendering with good sharpness at f/2. When extended for use the lens performs like a standard Summicron; when collapsed it must not be used (the rear element will contact the camera's mirror or shutter).
Inspect all elements for fungus, haze, and coating condition — coating on the collapsible is single-layer and more susceptible to haze. Test the collapsing mechanism for smooth operation. Verify rangefinder coupling accuracy. Confirm Leica M bayonet engagement. Check aperture blades.
