Makina Optical Co. of Tokyo supplied OEM optics to brands like Vivitar and Hanimex before selling lenses under its own Makinon name from 1974. This 28-80mm zoom was a mid-range, general-purpose lens sold through camera shops and mail order to manual-focus SLR owners into the 1980s.

Sold in Pentax K, Canon FD, Minolta MD, Nikon F and Olympus OM mounts, it covers 28-80mm at a variable f/3.5-4.5 aperture through a six-blade iris and a non-rotating 72mm filter thread.
