Mamiya's refined 6x7 studio SLR — leaf-shutter lenses, rotating back, bellows focus, 1974.
The Mamiya RB67 Pro-S is a mid-1970s medium-format SLR, an update of the original RB67 in Mamiya's 6x7 studio system. The Pro-S added double-exposure prevention and improvements to the film back and interlocks, making it a more refined working body while keeping full compatibility with the RB lens and back range.
It is a medium-format (6x7) SLR producing a 56x67mm frame on 120 or 220 film through interchangeable rotating film backs. It uses leaf shutters built into each lens for flash sync at all speeds and focuses by a bellows and rack-and-pinion mechanism. The body takes interchangeable waist-level or prism finders and focusing screens and mounts Mamiya RB67 lenses. It is fully mechanical with no built-in meter.
With its added interlocks and refined back, the Pro-S was a durable choice for portrait and product studios that wanted the large 6x7 frame and the rotating magazine for quick orientation changes. Like the rest of the RB line it is heavy and designed for tripod use and controlled shooting.
Check each lens leaf shutter for accurate speeds and inspect the bellows for pinholes or cracks. Test the rotating film back, its seals, and the dark slide, along with the double-exposure interlock. Inspect the mirror, screen, and waist-level finder mirror, and verify foam seals in body and back have not perished.
