Meyer-Optik's long Exakta tele — the Telemegor 300mm f/4.5 for distant reach.
The Meyer-Optik Telemegor 300mm f/4.5 is a long telephoto prime from Meyer-Optik Görlitz, offered in the Exakta bayonet as the far reach of the maker's Telemegor series. The telephoto construction kept it shorter than its focal length would otherwise demand, though it remained a large lens. It served Exakta users needing serious reach for distant wildlife and sport.
This is a manual-focus Exakta-mount lens with a 300mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/4.5. It uses a telephoto optical layout of the Telemegor type and is a large lens usually fitted with a tripod mount. Earlier examples used a preset aperture ring. Element count, filter thread and weight are omitted here where they cannot be confirmed for the specific Exakta build.
The Telemegor 300mm f/4.5 brings distant subjects close, and at f/4.5 keeps a workable viewfinder for its length. It suits wildlife and field sport where reach is the priority, and general long-distance detail work. Because of its size it is best used from a tripod or firm support, and stopping down a stop firms up contrast and edge definition for critical shots.
Used Telemegor 300mm lenses are collectible and appear occasionally, often with preset apertures to check. Inspect the large front element carefully for haze, fungus, separation and coating damage. Test the aperture rings, the long focus helicoid and the tripod collar for smooth operation and no play. On mirrorless via an Exakta adapter it is a heavyweight manual tele needing solid support.
