Minolta's Dynax 2xi — entry xi-series autofocus SLR, fully electronic, Minolta A mount, 1992.
The Minolta Dynax 2xi, from 1992, was an entry-level body in the third-generation xi-series of Minolta autofocus SLRs. It carried Dynax branding in Europe and Maxxum and Alpha names elsewhere. It brought the xi generation's automation to budget buyers with a simplified feature set, using the same Minolta A mount as the rest of the series.
It is a 35mm single-lens-reflex on the Minolta A bayonet with body-integral autofocus. It offers automatic exposure with through-the-lens metering and is a fully electronic body, its electronically controlled shutter and motorised transport both depending on battery power, with an LCD for settings. As with the xi line, its operation is oriented toward simple, automatic shooting rather than manual control.
The 2xi suits a beginner or traveller wanting an inexpensive, easy autofocus SLR with access to Minolta A lenses. It handles as a lightweight, automatic body for everyday pictures. Its limits are the pared-back controls and its complete reliance on electronics.
On the used market, inspect the LCD for missing segments and confirm the autofocus and electronic shutter operate. Test the motorised advance and rewind, verify the meter responds, and check the foam light seals for perishing. Clean the battery contacts, confirm the correct battery, and note the fully electronic body will not fire with a dead battery.
