Minox's classic spy camera — the Model B with selenium meter in 8x11mm format.
The Minox B is a classic subminiature camera from Minox GmbH (West Germany), the second major production model following the transition of Minox production from Latvia to West Germany. The Minox B was produced from 1958–1972 and became the archetypal 'spy camera' of the Cold War era.
The Minox B uses the standard Minox 9.5mm film format producing 8x11mm negatives, features a fixed 15mm Complan lens at approximately f/3.5, provides a programmable exposure system with selenium light meter, and delivers the characteristic stainless steel Minox body construction.
The Minox B is the definitive Cold War Minox — its combination of compact size, sharp optics, and accurate metering made it the intelligence community's subminiature camera of choice. It gained cultural prominence through spy films and novels. Minox film is currently manufactured by several specialty suppliers.
Test the selenium meter for responsiveness (many have degraded with age). Check shutter speeds across the range. Test film advance and sprocket engagement. Inspect the Complan lens for internal haze. Minox film is available from Minox and specialty suppliers.
