Nikon 1's basic kit zoom — the 10-30mm for the discontinued 1-system mirrorless cameras.
The Nikon 1 Nikkor VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 is the standard kit zoom for the Nikon 1 CX-format mirrorless system, covering a 27–81mm full-frame equivalent range thanks to the system's 2.7x crop factor. It was bundled with most Nikon 1 bodies as their primary lens offering.
The lens spans 10–30mm with a variable f/3.5–5.6 aperture, includes Nikon's VR (Vibration Reduction) stabilisation, features a retractable mechanical design for pocket-friendly transport, and covers only the CX sensor format. Electronic coupling communicates full lens data to compatible Nikon 1 bodies.
VR stabilisation compensates partially for the variable maximum aperture, particularly at the longer end of the range where f/5.6 would otherwise require slower shutter speeds. The retractable design is a practical advantage for the Nikon 1 system's compact positioning. The Nikon 1 system has been discontinued, making used lenses the only availability.
Test the retraction mechanism for smooth engagement and positive locking in both collapsed and extended positions — retractable designs can fail mechanically over time. Verify VR operation by checking for stabilised performance in handheld shots. Confirm autofocus reliability on a compatible Nikon 1 body, as the system uses contrast-detect AF.
