Nikon's classic D-type 105mm macro — true 1:1 with screw-drive AF and D-chip communication.

The Nikon AF Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D was released approximately 1990 as a professional macro prime achieving 1:1 reproduction at minimum focus. The D designation adds distance information encoding for 3D colour matrix metering and flash TTL. No vibration reduction. Nikon F mount.

f/2.8 maximum aperture. 105mm macro focal length. 1:1 maximum magnification at minimum focus (0.314m). D chip (distance data for 3D metering). Nine elements in nine groups. 52mm filter thread. At approximately 555g. Body-driven AF (no in-lens AF motor). No VR. Nikon F mount.

The 105mm focal length provides comfortable working distance for macro photography — at 1:1, the front element is approximately 14cm from the subject, reducing the risk of disturbing insects or casting shadows on the subject versus shorter macro focal lengths. Body-driven AF means AF speed depends on the camera body motor speed. The VR-equipped successor (AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR) was released in 2006.
