Nikon's compact screw-drive ultra-wide zoom for full-frame, one of the earliest AF wide-angles.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D IF-ED is a compact ultra-wide zoom for Nikon FX cameras, launched around 2000. Using the screw-drive AF coupling, it was one of Nikon's earliest ultra-wide options for full-frame and provided useful wide-angle coverage in a remarkably small and lightweight package.
Optical quality is decent with adequate centre sharpness and typical ultra-wide corner softness. ED glass helps control chromatic aberration. IF internal focus keeps the lens length constant. The screw-drive AF requires a body with a built-in motor.
Nikon F mount, 77mm filter thread. Full-frame coverage. Requires a body with a built-in AF motor for autofocus. The AF-S 16-35mm f/4G VR and Z 14-30mm f/4 S are modern successors. The AF-S 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is the more recent version with internal motor.
Cheap used. Check the AF coupling engagement and focusing accuracy. The compact size is appealing but the screw-drive limitation and lack of VR make this dated. The AF-S version is generally the better choice.
