Nikon's AF 20mm f/2.8 D-type — wide-angle prime with distance communication for improved metering.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D launched in 1994 as the D-type version of Nikon's 20mm f/2.8 autofocus prime. The D designation adds distance information for improved flash metering — the main upgrade over the non-D version.
Optically good — sharp from f/5.6 with CRC (Close Range Correction) for improved close-focus performance. The 20mm ultra-wide perspective. Body-driven screw AF — no AF on entry-level DSLRs without AF motor. D-type communication.
Nikon F mount with 62mm filter thread. Approximately 270g — compact. Full-frame coverage. CRC system. D-type distance communication. Minimum focus distance 25cm. No VR stabilisation.
Available used very cheaply. The AF-S 20mm f/1.8G is dramatically better with AF-S motor and faster aperture. The Z 20mm f/1.8 S is the modern mirrorless option. For budget full-frame ultra-wide needs on AF-motor-equipped Nikon bodies.
