Nikon's compact full-frame superzoom — 28-200mm with G-type and IF-ED glass, body-driven AF.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED is a compact full-frame superzoom covering 28-200mm. The IF (Internal Focus) and ED glass improve over simpler superzooms. G-type — electronic aperture. One of Nikon's more capable budget superzooms.
Optically acceptable — IF and ED glass provide better performance than basic superzooms. Sharp in the centre at mid-focal lengths. No VR stabilisation. The 28-200mm range provides good versatility. Body-driven screw AF.
Nikon F mount with 72mm filter thread. Approximately 510g — moderate. Full-frame coverage. IF internal focus — barrel doesn't extend during focus. ED glass. G-type. Minimum focus distance 44cm.
Available used very cheaply. No VR is the main limitation. The AF-S VR options that followed are much better. IF and ED set this apart from cheaper Nikon superzooms. For film bodies or budget full-frame digital with AF motor.
