Nikon's classic D-type constant f/2.8 standard zoom — professional 35-70mm for the film and early digital era.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8D is a professional constant-aperture standard zoom from 1993. It was one of Nikon's most popular professional zooms in the film era — compact, sharp, and reliable with constant f/2.8 speed.
Optically very good — sharp throughout the range with constant f/2.8 providing consistent exposure. D-type distance communication for flash metering. The relatively compact 35-70mm range is narrower than modern 24-70mm but adequate for many uses. Push-pull zoom.
Nikon F mount with 62mm filter thread. Approximately 665g. Body-driven screw AF. Full-frame coverage. Push-pull zoom mechanism. Macro mode at 35mm provides useful close-focus. D-type communication. Minimum focus distance approximately 60cm.
Available used at budget to mid-range prices. The 24-70mm f/2.8G and later VR version are much wider and better. The push-pull zoom can develop play. Body-drive AF limits compatibility. A classic that served thousands of working photographers through the 1990s.
