Nikon's classic screw-drive 50mm f/1.4 — D designation with distance encoding, compact and affordable.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D (1995) is Nikon's long-serving screw-drive autofocus 50mm prime. The D designation provides distance information for Nikon's 3D Matrix metering. It has been a staple standard prime for Nikon shooters for decades.
Good sharpness from f/2.8 with pleasing rendering. 7-blade diaphragm. Screw-drive AF — functional on bodies with built-in motors but noisy and slow compared to AF-S. Classic Nikon 50mm character. Chromatic aberration visible wide open.
Nikon F mount, 52mm filter thread. Screw-drive — no motor in lens. Will not AF on D3xxx/D5xxx bodies. 230g weight. 45cm minimum focus distance. D designation for 3D Matrix metering.
Very common and cheap used. The AF-S 50mm f/1.4G has a built-in motor and is better in every way — buy that instead if your body lacks an AF motor. Check AF coupling pin for wear.
