Nikon's budget body-drive telephoto — 70-300mm D-type without ED glass or VR.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D is a budget telephoto zoom for Nikon F-mount without ED glass — the most basic 70-300mm in Nikon's lineup. The D designation provides distance information. Body-driven screw AF.
Optically very basic — softer than the ED version (ID 639) especially at 300mm with more chromatic aberration. Variable f/4-5.6. Body-driven AF — no AF on entry DSLRs. No VR. The cheapest Nikon-branded telephoto option.
Nikon F mount with 62mm filter thread. Approximately 505g. D-type. No ED glass. No VR. Body-driven AF. Full-frame coverage. Minimum focus distance approximately 150cm.
Essentially free used. The ED version (ID 639) is slightly better with ED glass. The AF-S VR 70-300mm is dramatically better. Only for absolute budget needs on bodies with AF motor.
