Nikon's cheapest telephoto — body-driven 80-200mm at variable aperture for film-era F-mount.
The Nikon AF Nikkor 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6D is one of Nikon's cheapest telephoto zooms, providing basic 80-200mm reach with D-type communication. Body-driven screw AF. A bare-bones consumer telephoto from the film era.
Optically basic — acceptable centre sharpness at mid-focal lengths. Slow variable f/4.5-5.6 aperture. D-type distance communication. Body-driven AF — no AF on entry-level DSLRs. No VR stabilisation. Adequate for casual telephoto use.
Nikon F mount with 52mm filter thread. Approximately 370g — lightweight. Full-frame coverage. Plastic construction. D-type. Minimum focus distance approximately 150cm.
Very cheap used — essentially free. Any modern AF-S telephoto is dramatically better. Body-drive AF limits compatibility. The AF-S 70-300mm VR is a massive upgrade. Only useful at throwaway prices for bodies with AF motor.
