Nikon's DX ultra-wide zoom — 15-36mm equiv at f/3.5-4.5 with AF-S motor and ED glass.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G launched in 2009 as Nikon's own ultra-wide zoom for DX-format DSLRs. Covering 15-36mm equivalent, it provides ultra-wide to standard perspectives with AF-S motor ensuring autofocus on all Nikon DX bodies.
Optically good — sharp in the centre throughout with acceptable edge performance. The variable aperture limits low-light use but ED glass helps control chromatic aberration. AF-S motor is quiet and fast. Internal focus design. Good for landscape and architecture.
Nikon F mount, DX format with 77mm filter thread — accepts standard screw-on filters. Weighs 460g. No weather sealing. Minimum focus distance 24cm — useful for environmental close-ups. G-type — electronically controlled aperture. HB-23 lens hood included.
Available used at mid-range prices. The 77mm filter thread is a real advantage for landscape photography with ND and polarising filters. The Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is faster but narrower range. The newer AF-P DX 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR is smaller with VR. A solid Nikon DX ultra-wide.
