Nikon's early mid-range DX kit zoom with extended range and internal focusing.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED was introduced around 2006 as a step-up kit lens bundled with the D80. Covering 27-202mm equivalent with internal focusing and ED glass, it offered more range than the 18-55mm without the bulk of the 18-200mm.
Optical quality is good for its class with sharp centre performance and ED glass controlling chromatic aberration. The IF design keeps the lens length constant during focusing. AF-S motor is quiet and responsive. No VR stabilisation, which is the main limitation compared to the 18-105mm and 18-140mm successors.
Nikon F mount in DX format only, 67mm filter thread. Largely superseded by the 18-105mm VR and 18-140mm VR which add stabilisation and more range. The 18-135mm occupies a middle ground that was briefly popular but is now somewhat orphaned in Nikon's lineup.
Very cheap used given its age and lack of VR. Check AF motor and zoom ring. The 18-105mm VR or 18-140mm VR are better choices in most situations due to the addition of stabilisation.
