Nikon's popular mid-range DX superzoom with VR, covering 27-210mm equivalent.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR was launched around 2013 as a versatile mid-range DX zoom. Covering 27-210mm equivalent with VR, it replaced the 18-105mm as the premium DX kit zoom option. It was commonly bundled with the D7100 and D7200.
Optical quality is good at moderate focal lengths with sharp centre performance. VR provides approximately 4 stops of stabilisation. ED glass controls chromatic aberration. AF-S motor is quiet. Build is solid plastic with a metal mount. The extended 140mm range covers most everyday situations.
Nikon F mount in DX format only, 67mm filter thread. This replaced the 18-105mm VR in Nikon's kit lineup. The 18-200mm and 18-300mm offer more range with more optical compromises. The 18-140mm is the best-balanced option.
Good value used. Check VR operation, zoom ring for creep, and sharpness at 140mm. The lens is well-suited as a one-lens solution for travel. For better telephoto the AF-P 70-300mm VR is a good companion.
