Nikon's updated DX superzoom with VR II — 27-300mm equiv covering everything for DX travel.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II launched in 2009 as the updated version of Nikon's hugely popular DX superzoom. The VR II improved stabilisation and the internal zoom mechanism prevented zoom creep — a common complaint with the VR I.
Optically acceptable for a superzoom — sharp at mid-focal lengths with expected softness at extremes. VR II provides approximately 4 stops of stabilisation. AF-S motor works on all DX bodies. The 27-300mm equivalent range eliminates lens changes.
Nikon F mount, DX format with 72mm filter thread. Approximately 560g. No weather sealing. VR II stabilisation. Zoom lock switch prevents creep. Minimum focus distance 50cm. IF internal focus.
Available used at budget to mid-range prices. The 18-300mm VR provides even more range. The 18-140mm VR is sharper with less range. The VR II was one of Nikon's best-selling DX lenses. For travel shooters wanting maximum range with stabilisation.
