Nikon's DX superzoom with VR — 27-450mm equiv covering everything from wide to super-telephoto.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is Nikon's highest-ratio superzoom for DX format, covering 27-450mm equivalent — a 16.7x zoom range. It provides the widest possible range in a single DX lens with VR stabilisation.
Optically acceptable for a superzoom — sharp at mid-focal lengths with expected softness at the extremes. VR provides approximately 3.5 stops of stabilisation — essential at the long end. AF-S motor works on all DX bodies. ED glass helps with chromatic aberration.
Nikon F mount, DX format with 77mm filter thread. Approximately 830g. No weather sealing. VR stabilisation. Minimum focus distance 45cm. The enormous zoom range eliminates lens changes for travel.
Available used at mid-range prices. The 16.7x range means significant optical compromise — dedicated zooms are much sharper. The AF-S 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is sharper with less range. For DX travel shooters wanting maximum range in one lens above all else.
