Nikon's beloved DX standard prime, the most recommended first prime for Nikon APS-C shooters.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G was launched in 2009 and instantly became the most recommended first prime for Nikon DX shooters. Providing a 52mm equivalent standard perspective with a fast f/1.8 aperture, it transformed low-light capability and introduced many photographers to the benefits of prime lenses.
Optical quality is excellent with sharp results from wide open in the centre and very good corner performance by f/4. Bokeh is pleasant from the seven-blade aperture. AF-S motor is quiet and responsive, working on all Nikon DX bodies including those without a built-in AF motor. Build is lightweight plastic but feels solid.
Nikon F mount in DX format, 52mm filter thread. This is a DX lens and does not cover the full-frame image circle. For FX bodies the AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED is the full-frame equivalent. The DX version is one of the most affordable AF-S primes Nikon makes.
Outstanding value used. There is very little that goes wrong with this lens. Check AF motor and aperture blades. At its price it is an essential purchase for any Nikon DX shooter. The improvement over a kit zoom in low light and portrait work is transformative.
