Nikon's unique 105mm f/1.4 — the world's fastest autofocus 105mm, delivering extraordinary bokeh.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 105mm f/1.4E ED was released in September 2016 as the first f/1.4 lens at 105mm from Nikon — combining the telephoto portrait compression of 105mm with f/1.4 maximum aperture. The 'E' designation indicates electromagnetic aperture control for accurate aperture setting during high-speed burst. ED elements minimise chromatic aberration at wide apertures on full-frame. At 985g and 82mm filter thread it is a substantial portrait prime.

The optical design uses 14 elements in 9 groups with ED elements. Nine rounded aperture blades produce smooth bokeh. The 82mm filter thread is large for a portrait prime. At 985g the lens is heavy for extended portrait sessions. Minimum focus distance of 1.0m. Silent Wave Motor provides fast, quiet AF with full-time manual override. Electromagnetic aperture (E type) for accurate high-speed control. f/1.4 maximum aperture.

The 105mm at f/1.4 provides the strongest telephoto compression and subject-to-background separation in the Nikon F-mount portrait prime lineup: at 105mm and f/1.4 on full-frame, the depth of field at portrait distances is extremely shallow, and the 105mm focal length provides more flattering perspective compression than the 85mm alternative. The E-type electromagnetic aperture enables accurate aperture control during the D5/D500/D850 high-speed bursts for which this lens was designed.
