Nikon's constant-aperture ultra-wide zoom with VR, a workhorse for landscape and architecture.
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G ED VR is Nikon's stabilised ultra-wide zoom for full-frame F-mount, launched in 2010. Covering a dramatic 16-35mm range at a constant f/4, it competes with the faster but unstabilised AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED as Nikon's wide-angle solution.
Optical quality is very good with sharp centre performance and well-controlled distortion for an ultra-wide. VR provides approximately 4 stops of stabilisation which is unusual and valuable at wide-angle focal lengths. The Nano Crystal Coating reduces flare and ghosting effectively. Build is professional-grade with weather sealing.
Nikon F mount only, 77mm filter thread. The acceptance of front filters is a significant advantage over the 14-24mm f/2.8G which has a bulbous front element. The Z 14-30mm f/4 S is the mirrorless successor. The Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 is a wider-aperture alternative.
Good value used. Check VR operation, zoom ring smoothness, and inspect for front element damage. The ability to use standard 77mm filters makes this practical for landscape work with graduated NDs. An excellent wide-angle zoom for Nikon FX shooters.
