Nikon's AF-S 20mm f/1.8 for F-mount — fast ultra-wide with ED glass and Nano Crystal coating.
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G ED launched in 2014 as Nikon's fast ultra-wide prime for F-mount, providing 20mm at f/1.8 with ED glass and Nano Crystal coating. It targets landscape, astro, and environmental photographers wanting speed at ultra-wide.
Optically very good — sharp from f/2.8 with good coma control for astrophotography. Nano Crystal coating reduces flare effectively. AF-S motor is fast and quiet. ED glass controls chromatic aberration. Good close focus at 20cm.
Nikon F mount with 77mm filter thread. Approximately 355g — compact for a fast 20mm. No weather sealing. Full-frame coverage. G-type. Minimum focus distance 20cm — impressive. 7 rounded aperture blades.
Available used at mid-range prices. The Z 20mm f/1.8 S is the mirrorless successor with improved optics. Works well on Z bodies via FTZ adapter. A solid fast ultra-wide for F-mount users and Z-mount adapter users. Good coma control for astrophotography.
