The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G was released in 2010 as the professional wide-prime replacement for the AF Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 manual-focus design, adding SWM autofocus and Nano Crystal Coat. At 600g and 67mm filter thread it reflects the 10-element formula. The G designation indicates no aperture ring — fully electronic aperture control. SWM provides fast, quiet AF. Full-frame coverage.

The optical design uses 10 elements in 7 groups with 1 aspherical element. Nine rounded aperture blades produce smooth bokeh. The 67mm filter thread is standard. At 600g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.30m. SWM provides fast, quiet AF with full-time manual override. Nano Crystal Coat reduces internal reflections on backlit subjects. f/1.4 maximum aperture.

The 35mm f/1.4 perspective on full-frame provides the classic photojournalism wide-normal focal length at f/1.4: sufficient subject-background separation for environmental portraiture, with a natural perspective closer to human vision than 50mm. At f/1.4, low-light street and documentary photography is possible at 1/50s and below. Nano Crystal Coat manages the lens flare that uncoated wide f/1.4 designs show on backlit street subjects.
