Nikon's full-frame 35mm f/1.8 — compact, sharp, and affordable wide prime for F-mount FX bodies.
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ED launched in 2014 as an affordable full-frame 35mm prime for Nikon F-mount. Unlike the DX-only 35mm f/1.8G, this lens covers full-frame with ED glass for improved optical performance.
Optically very good — sharp from f/2.5 with good performance at f/1.8. ED glass controls chromatic aberration. AF-S motor is fast and quiet. Good close focus at 25cm. The FX coverage means it works well on both DX and FX bodies.
Nikon F mount with 58mm filter thread. Weighs 305g — compact and lightweight. No weather sealing. Full-frame coverage. G-type. Minimum focus distance 25cm. 7 rounded aperture blades.
Available used at mid-range prices. The Z 35mm f/1.8 S is better on mirrorless. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art is sharper but heavier. A solid, practical wide prime for Nikon FX DSLRs. Works on Z bodies via FTZ adapter.
